Charlie Cambell raced Super Stock for several years before becoming the owner of an Outlaw Drag Racing team. Charlie has now owned the Chevy for 9 years and continues to enjoy drag racing.
I recently had the opportunity to set with Charlie Campbell, owner of Charlie Campbell Racing, to talk about some racing, watch some video and just relax. The operation of Charlie Campbell Racing consists of a close group of friends that inspire other racers in the sport. First impressions of team owner Charlie was that this team is truly a team effort. From Driver Doc, to crew member, Mike, no one person was more important than the other. Charlie Campbell Race has been quoted as “The ambassadors for drag racing”, “One of the best sportsman I know” to “one who sets the example”.
In the pits, the team is always ready for spectators and racers to come by. Popcorn, hot dogs and cold drinks are always waiting on anyone that stops to look and listen to the Chevy S-10 to start is blown and injected Keith Black HEMI engine. Charlie and other team members often allow spectators to sit inside the truck and experience the excitement of drag racing. Few teams have earned the respect that Charlie Campbell Racing has received, yet Charlie Campbell standing nearly 7 feet tall is “humbled by such words of recognition”. During my conversion with Charlie the one thing that was repeated several times was “this isn’t about me, it about the team and what we are doing.”
